Who Should Attend?

Technicians, analysts, lab managers, researchers, and anyone needing to operate and/or interpret and understand Saturn DigiSizer results should attend this 3-day course. The course will utilize the latest model of Saturn Digisizer but most course material is also applicable to users of previous models (i.e. – DigiSizer 5200). The course will be of great benefit to an entry-level operator, but should also prove informative for moderately experienced users wishing to expand their capability. Prior hands-on experience with the instrument is highly beneficial, but not required.

Curriculum

  • The Saturn DigiSizer components and how they operate
  • Sample preparation and dispersion, including sampling, choosing an appropriate analysis liquid and surfactant, the stages of dispersion, dispersion techniques, and sample loading
  • An overview of scattering theory, including Mie theory, particle size distribution calculations, and Saturn operational theory
  • Utilization of all Saturn software menus and screens to efficiently obtain accurate and reproducible data
  • MasterTech auto-sampler operation
  • The customization and editing of reports and graphs, including reference and specification reports, plot overlays, data exporting, and SPC reports
  • Data reduction, including the verification of dispersion quality, interpretation and optimization of the Goodness of Fit plot, and optical model scouting
  • Operator Maintenance – meet with a member of our Service Department to discuss troubleshooting and user-maintenance

Background

Utilizing a state-of-the-art CCD detector containing over three million detector elements, Mie theory, and unique design and data reduction features, the Saturn DigiSizer® II High-Definition Digital Particle Size Analyzer provides an extremely high level of resolution and sensitivity not available in other laser particle sizing systems. The level of detail, accuracy, and resolution enables the extraction of all available information from the static light scattering pattern. Both organic and inorganic particles can be analyzed and measured over a wide range of 40 nanometers to 2.5 millimeters. The fully-automated Saturn DigiSizer II requires little operator intervention and includes features such as sampling and low-volume sample handling systems that make the instrument ideal for a wide range of production, research, and quality control applications.
