Anthony Thornton Elected to ASTM International Board of Directors - 1/24/2011
Anthony Thornton, Micromeritics Director of Product Integrity and Performance, was recently elected to serve a three-year term on the ASTM International board of directors. An ASTM International fellow and Award of Merit recipient for his contributions to Committee B09 on Metal Powders and Metal Powder Products, Thornton has served as chairman, vice chairman, and member of a number of ASTM subcommittees. He was honored with a B09 Distinguished Service Award in 2001 and an E29 Award of Appreciation in 2002.
After earning his B.S. in chemistry and M.S. in analytical chemistry from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, Thornton joined the Micromeritics staff as a research chemist in 1980. At Micromeritics, a developer and manufacturer of materials characterization instrumentation, Thornton’s current responsibilities as a director and senior product scientist include monitoring adherence to product development procedures to ensure that all new products and updates meet customer requirement specifications. He also provides product applications and operational support, delivers technical training, represents Micromeritics in various standards development groups, and participates in product development performance testing.
ASTM International is one of the largest international standards development and delivery systems in the world. ASTM standards are accepted and used in research and development, product testing, quality systems and commercial transactions. Thornton has been involved in ASTM International work since 1987. He is also a member of the American Chemical Society, the Catalysis Society of South Africa, the International Adsorption Society and the International Organization for Standardization.
